  • What is Ventrilo? Ventrilo is a superior step forward in Voice over IP (VoIP) communications software intelligence. Ventrilo is leading the industry with features all others imitate. With surround sound positioning, and the ability for each user to fully customize sounds and events they wish to hear. Combined with superior sound quality and minimal resource usage your sure to maintain stellar performance during online competitions

  • Where can I download the Ventrilo client? You can download the Ventrilo client from our website here or you can also download it from Flagship's website here

  • What is RCON? Rcon is short for Remote Control, and it does basically exactly that. You are able to remotely control aspects of your server through the connection as opposed to having to edit every function for the server from a configuration file or control panel.

Here are some useful RCON commands for Ventrilo:

    auth < 0 | 1 | 2 > - Introduced with version 1.03, allows the authorization mode to be changed dynamically.

banadd - Adds an IP address, or subnet address, and a reason for the banning to the ban list and ban file. If you specify a subnet like 192.168.0.0/16 then any IP address that starts with 192.168 will be banned, whereas 192.168.67.0/24 would ban anything that starts with 192.168.67.

bandel - Deletes an IP address from the ban list. Starting with version 1.03 this command will automatically update the ban file. Similar to banadd if you want to remove a ban address that is specified by a subnet then you must also specify the same ip and subnet in the bandel command.

banlist - This option will display all of the banned IP address, the user name of the IP address, the admin who banned them and a reason why.

clientkick - Instructs the server to disconnect a user where is the users connection ID number.

clientstatus - This will output more detailed information about a specified client.

comment - This option allows the server's comment string to be changed dynamically. The can be anything you want.

diag < 0 | 1 > - Allows the diagnostic mode to be changed dynamically.

filtertts  < 0 | 1 > - Enables or disables filtering out of TTS binds.

filterwave  < 0 | 1 > - Enables or disables filtering out of wave file binds.

help - displays a list of possible console commands.

kickall - Kicks all clients connected to the server. If issued via an "/rcon" command from an admining client, that client is exempted from the kick.

loggrep - Allows the servers log file to be searched for a specific piece of text. If lines is 0 then all matching entries will be displayed, otherwise only the last number of specified matching the search will be displayed. The search string does NOT support regular expressions and all comparisons are case sensitive.
WARNING: Using this command may cause the server to momentarily interrupt voice communication for all clients depending on the size of the log file. It's also possible that the results will be too long and potentially flood the requesters connection with too much information, thus causing the server to disconnect you. It is probably best that you always specify a number of to limit the results.

maxclients # - Allows the maxclients value to be changed dynamically. (This option is locked by Ventrilo.CO)

monitor  < 0 | 1 > - This option is only valid when requested from a remote client using the "/rcon" option in the chat window. It instructs the server to send all status and log messages to the client that typed this command. The monitor command is turned on by setting the value to 1, and turned off by a value of 0.

name - This option will display the server's name and current comment.

password - Allows the global login password to be changed dynamically.

pingrate 1..10 - Allows for changing the interval (specified in seconds) that the server will ping the clients for ping updates.

quit - Forces the server to shutdown. If the server was started by an NT Service control program then it will be automatically restarted in 10 seconds.

serverstatus - Output detailed status information about the server and specified interfaces.

status - Displays the user id, channel id, login name and IP address for all of the connected users.

timestamp < 0 | 1 > - Enables or disables displaying timestamp's on console and remote console server messages.

tts - This option will send out a Text-to-speech message to all users connected to the server, no matter which channel they are currently in. The can be anything you want. This command and the comment command could be very useful if you are hosting a server that is reserved for a specific amount of time and you want to send TTS messages informing the connected users about how much time remains before the server is shutdown.

version - Displays the application version of the server.

  • How do I allow MAC users to join my Ventrilo server? This is incredibly easy! Simply login to your Ventrilo.CO Control Panel and in the configuration options area please enable the codec "SPEEX" After your server restarts, your MAC users will be able to join and converse with everyone else. Please note that changing the codec may affect voice quality depending on your current settings.

  • How do I set a password on my Ventrilo server? Login to your Ventrilo.CO Control Panel and click on the Manage Server link then click on Alter Configuration link. Next make sure Authentication is set to Global Password and set the Global Password option to the password of your choice once this is done click Submit Changes. After doing a change such as this you must restart the Ventrilo server by clicking the Restart Servers link.

  • I hear myself echo whenever another specific person is connected, why? The main cause to this issue usually is a Creative Labs sound card and using it for the microphone input. There isn't anything wrong with the card per say, but actually with the way the default system wide sound mixer controls are configured. Unknown to us, Creative defaults the sound input device to mix all input sources into a single source. This includes, mic, sound loopback, midi, wave, and any other sound sources you might have configured. Obviously, if it is mixing all input devices you can see why you are hearing the echo. Many people don't realize that if you reinstall Creative drivers or update to newer ones then the default settings will come back to all-in-one mix mode again.
The solution to this problem is quite simple but must be performed by the person who is generating the echo rather then you who hears it, which is typically harder said than done. These steps should correct the problem though so do your best to inform the effected person of the following.
Have the effected person go into thier Ventrilo Setup and select a Mixer for the sound card that will be the sound input device (as determined by the "Input device" option). This will populate the Mux and Line options. Normally there should only be one Mux. It's possible that you might have numerous Line options. Go ahead and select "Microphone" or what ever is appropriate for the input line and then click OK.
Please note that selecting a mixer, mux and line will enable the "Hardware volume" slider. This gives you hardware level control over the sound input signal and is the best way for controlling how loud you are. Setting the slider to half way seems to work best for most people but that will be system and hardware dependant.

  • I cannot hear Text-To-Speech inside Ventrilo Microsoft Windows comes with the TTS libraries built in but some people have experienced problems making it work for one reason or another. Thus, the following instructions might help them as well.
On Windows 9x and 2000 platforms you need to download and install the libraries manually. Click and download the "Speech SDK 5.1" file, then install the file using the default installation information. The next time you start Ventrilo it will automatically detect the presence of the TTS library and use it.
Once the library is installed you can tell Ventrilo to generate TTS messages when certain events occur, and whether or not it should process incoming TTS messages from other users. Click on the Setup button and then click on the Speech and Event tabs to control TTS processing.

  • Error: "Unable to resolve DNS/Hostname" after I try to connect Every Ventrilo.CO account comes with a free DNS Vanity Domain Name connected to your account/server IP. When you defined the server you wished to connect to within the Ventrilo client you gave it a vanity hostname instead of IP number. DNS Vanity Host names look like "myserver.ventrilo.co" whereas IP numbers will look like "12.34.56.789" but without the quotes.
Both formats are valid inside ventrilo however if you give it a vanity hostname then the name must be typed 100% correctly. If the name you entered doesn't exist then this error message will be displayed, because your vanity hostname is not directing to a valid IP. Ensure you typed everything correctly, and try again. If you still have issues, please contact our Support Department.

  • After clicking connect, Ventrilo immediately disconnects and begins a count down before doing an automatic reconnect. This repeatidly in rapid succession. If the count down starts immediately after connecting to a server then you have most likely been banned from the server you are attempting to connect to. Contact the server administrator and request to have yourself un-banned. If they are unwilling to do so, you are out of luck and will need to find a new server to join. If this is your own Ventrilo.CO server then you are able to edit your banlist from your control panel and restart your server.
The other issue that could cause this error to appear is if the target ventrilo server you are attemping to connect to is offline for any reason. Please restart/start your server and attempt to connect again. If you still have issues and are a Ventrilo.CO Customer, please submit a ticket in our Support Department for further help.

  • Cannot find the file 'MSIEXEC' (or one of its components). If you are getting this error when trying to install Ventrilo on your system, then you are more than likely using an outdated version of Windows Installer Service. You must install a Windows service pack that contains a newer version of the Windows Installer Service.
Ventrilo now uses an MSI installation system. This requires that the "Windows Installer" version 2.0 or higher be installed on your system. If it isn't then you may very well get this error messages while trying to install the Ventrilo client.
If you are using 95/98/ME then you will need to download and install the "InstMsiA.exe" program from Microsoft.
If you use using NT4 / 2000 (pre SP3) then you will need to download and install the "InstMsiW.exe" program from Microsoft.
Windows 7 should have no issues.
